High-resolution 2D Raman mapping of mono- and bicomponent filament cross-sections

A high-resolution Raman mapping method has been developed in order to obtain 2D information about structural anisotropies (crystallinity, molecular alignment) thin filament cross-sections (diameters between 27 ?m and 79 ?m). Cross-sections of melt-spun, hot-drawn poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) filaments bicomponent core-sheath PET-polyamide 6 (PA6) have scanned through a laser beam (spatial resolution <1 spectra were analyzed with specifically peak fitting maps, e.g., mapped height ratios across the face fibers. These maps reveal microscopic interconnected networks crystalline strands within low matrix. Radial gradients PET crystallinity, as well average surface crystallinities, determined. The presented visualize variations crystallinity such fine cross-sections, findings thereof, open new pathway better understand how fiber processing parameters affect radial structures. • High-resolution 27–79 ?m) cross-sections.
